OMG!, Prez. Mahama hooted at in Kumasi
Some mourners that thronged the funeral of the late Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatiah V reportedly hooted at the President, John Dramani Mahama and his entourage at the funeral grounds.

According to Nhyira FM’s Ruthy Danielson, who was at the funeral grounds, the mourners - clad in black and carried the flag of the NPP - started hooting at the President after the arrival of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo at the funeral grounds.

The mourners, she said claimed President Mahama declared President Mahama a persona non-grata at the funeral grounds as according to them, the President had previously spoken ill of the people of Kumasi.

“What are you doing, you claim we are ungrateful beings who would never appreciate whatever you do for us, even if you tar our roads with gold, we would never appreciate your efforts, so what are you doing here….,” Ruthy quoted some of the angry mourners as saying to the President.

The situation, she said, led to a petty scuffle between security forces guarding the President and the mourners.

A combined team of police and military men at the venue intervened to restore calm.

Some Chiefs at the funeral grounds were said to have been angry at the unfortunate incident.

President John Mahama was at the funeral as the guest of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who was mourning his late chief warlord.

The President was accompanied to the funeral grounds by some members of his administration and other functionaries of the NDC party.

Gang rape woman in front of her Three-Year-old daughter, kill her two-week-old son in the process
A 28-year-old woman was gang-raped in front of her three-year-old daughter after her attackers killed her two-week-old son. The 28-year-old had been visiting her sister when the bus pulled into a station in the town of Shishgarh in northern India's Uttar Pradesh State.

Police spokesman Surendra Singh Panwar said: "She reached Shishgarh on Monday evening." He said she met the two accused at the bus station, from where she was to catch a bus to Bareilly.

Another police spokesman, Yamuna Prasad added: "Her child had been sick for some time and she went to visit her sister to meet a tantrik (a Buddhist healer). She was returning when she met the two accused at the bus station. She was allegedly raped inside the bus at the bus station. Later, she found her child dead."

According to the Times of India, her baby was killed when attackers threw him to the ground. Police say her daughter, who hid in a corner of the bus, was the only witness to the savage assault as the two men raped her mother. The toddler managed to slip out of the bus without the attackers seeing her and was later found beside her unconscious mother by the side of the road. She was able to give police an account of the harrowing ordeal.

The distraught woman was taken to hospital where she is receiving medical attention. Two men have been arrested and charged with gang rape and culpable homicide following the brutal attack, Mail Online reports.

The incident comes after a 15-year-old girl in New Delhi lost her fight for life, days after she was raped and set on fire by an attacker. Police have arrested a 20-year-old man and charged him with raping and burning the girl on 7 March in a village outside the city.

India has been forced to confront problems of sexual harassment and violence after the brutal gang rape of a 23-year-old medical student on a bus in December 2012.

The watershed gang rape case triggered protests across India and sparked a global outcry with an outraged public taking to the streets in protest and advocating greater protection of women's rights. Women's rights campaigners are demanding that more action is taken as rapes and sexual assaults continue to take place in the capital.

Shirley Frimpong-Manso's 'Rebecca' Movie Saves The Day At AMVCA 2016
Ghana was unlucky at this year’s Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA). It was almost a “No Show” in the number of awards received at the event which came off at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday.

Though Ghana had eight nominations in the categories of Best Movie (Silver Rain), Best Costume Designer (Silver Rain), Best Actor in a Comedy (Majid Michel), Best Picture Editor( Shirley Frimpong Manso) and Best Actress for Comedy, Ghana could only boast of one award, a Frimpong-Manso movie, #Rebecca.

The win must have been the saviour of the day as the Ghanaian team watched on as their Nigerian colleagues, mostly, mounted the stage time and again to pick the awards on the night.

Though it was her first nomination at the Awards, Ghanaian actress, producer and director, Juliet Asante, would have inked her name as one of the new producers to watch out for on the continent. She may have come home empty handed but her movie, Silver Rain competed for the biggest award on the night, Best Movie in Africa. She was knocked off by Stephanie Linus’s movie, Dry.

As the big winner, Stephanie, whose movie explores the vulnerability of young girls and the need to save them from child marriage pledged the use of her resources to campaign for the freedom of the young child.

Other winners included Genevieve Nnaji whose movie Road to Yesterday, won the Best Movie for West Africa. She shared the glory with her co-producers Chinny Onwugbenu and Chichi Nwoko.

Two other big awards on the night were Best Actress and Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy which were respectively won by Funke Akindele for Jenifa’s Diary and Folarin Falana also for Jenifa’s Diary.

There was an element of surprise when one of Nigeria’s new actresses, Adesua Etomi won the Best Actress, Drama for her role in Falling when she beat the likes of Genevieve Nnaji to it. Similarly, Daniel K. Daniel was the “man of the moment” when he beat strong contenders such as Mike Ezuruonye and Ramsey Nouah to take home the award for Best Actor, Drama with his role in A Soldier’s Story.

For Best local language, Swahili, it went to Kitendawali. Dauda Kowa beat its other contenders to win the Best local movie in Hausa and Usekwu for Best local language, Igbo.

The awards ceremony also served as the platform to celebrate some of the legends in the African Movie Industry and this year, the honours were bestowed on Nigerian actress, Bukki Ajayi and Sadiq Daba, also of Nigeria. Kemi Lala Akindoju was also honoured with the Trailblazer Award for her immense contribution to the African movie industry.

It was not just a night on which excellence in Africa film and Television was rewarded, but also a night to demonstrate true fashion. The venue of the star-studded event was virtually turned into a fashion hub.

At the well-attended event which also exuded elegance and glamour, patrons were treated to performances from Tanzania’s Alikibi, South Africa’s Zonke and Yemi Alade. Nigerian highlife artiste, Flavour, rocked the auditorium with his popular Ada song.

At about 4:00 pm, the Red Carpet business was in full swing and the proper event started at the advertised time of 7:00 pm. The two and half hours which was properly manned by Nigeria’s IK Osakioduwa and South Africa’s Minie Dlamini came to an end at 9: 30 pm which gave revelers plenty time to rock themselves at the After Party which was held at another location within the Eko Hotels.

The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards is an initiative of Africa Magic. This year’s edition which was the fourth was sponsored by Amstel Malta. According to the organisers, the scheme is aimed at celebrating the contribution of African Film makers, actors and technicians to the success of the continent’s film and television industry.

A 19-year-old woman has been arrested by the Tesano Police in Accra for allegedly stealing a three-month-old baby of her neighbour at Avenor, near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

The suspect, Deborah Ansah, was said to have run away with the baby to her hometown, Achiansa Nubesu, near Suhum, in the Eastern Region.

She is said to have told her relations in her hometown that she had given birth to the baby and had returned to live in the village with her.

However, according to the police, her relations became suspicious following her inability to breast feed the baby and rather fed her on canned baby cereals.

The mother of the baby has since been located and identified only as Aminatu.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Tesano Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Ms Lydia Donkor, said Debora was arrested on March 3, after a 7-day search for her and the baby.

Ms Donkor said Deborah, who lived in the same neighbourhood with Aminatu, offered to assist the new mother with household chores after she was delivered of her baby in late 2015.

She said Deborah was said to be frequenting the house of Aminatu to assist her with household chores as she was unable to do hard work since she was delivered of her baby through caesarian operation.

Baby stolen while mother slept

Ms Donkor said about 10a.m. on February 26, 2016, after the mother of the baby had fed it, she took her into the bedroom so that she could have a nap and after some time, both mother and baby fell asleep.

Deborah who was visiting at the time, was playing ludo, an indoor game, with a neighbour in the house.

While the mother and baby were sleeping, Ms Donkor said Deborah took the sleeping baby and carried it on her back.

She said Deborah told the neighbour that she was going to the market to get some items but failed to return.

Later, when Aminatu woke up, Ms Donkor said, she realised that her baby was nowhere to be found.

She said all efforts to trace Deborah and the baby proved futile until the police received information that Deborah had been spotted in her hometown with a baby.

Acting on the tip-off, Ms Donkor said a team of detectives from the Tesano Police Command, led by the Divisional Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr S. K. Donyina Kyereme, went to Deborah’s hometown and with the cooperation of the residents arrested her with the baby.
