I Won’t Go Naughty Again - Kisa - blissgh
Ghanaian actress, Kisa Gbekle, has apologised for posting her semi nude and sexually suggestive photos on some social media platforms after months of sustained public bashing.

The young actress and musician recently made headlines with her semi nude photos in public domain. She attempted to offer explanations to justify the photos by comparing them to similar ones by world star, Rihanna.

Kisa had argued by then that if the Ghanaian entertainment media had no problems with semi nude photos of Amerian singer Rihanna, then she had every right to take same photos and publish them without offending the media.

However, Kisa made a u-turn on Wednesday and took to social media to apologise for publishing her half-naked photos and promised she would henceforth “be of a good behaviour”.

“Never again will I be a bad girl. I promise on my honour to be faithful and loyal to my people. No more bad pictures…lol (laugh out loud) but check instagram now kisagbekle,” she said on facebook.

Meanwhile the actress, almost immediately after the post, uploaded another ‘wild’ photo of herself on instagram.

Kisa is known for her performance in a number of movies including the TV series, The Miser. She was last in the news over her controversial Twerk music video.

“I believe that if you don't derive a deep sense of purpose from what you do, if you don't come radiantly alive several times a day, if you don't feel deeply grateful at the tremendous good fortune that has been bestowed on you, then you are wasting your life. And life is too short to waste”.

This was the quote on Guiseppina Baafi’s sent to close friends when she was handed the GHS 630,670.00 BMW M6 convertible last week.

God indeed have plans for everybody;

Weeks after Inna Patty lead Exclusive Events stripped her of the Miss Ghana 2013 title and collected all the prizes including the Hyundai accent, it have come to light that the actions of the organizers has rather opened doors to good fortunes for the former beauty queen.

According to sources close to the former beauty queen, a foreign Businessman (name withheld) with businesses scattered around the country have decided to buy her the Brand new BMW M6 convertible.

They have also decided to pay for a 14 days trip to Dubai to cool off and away from the brouhaha in the media on the reasons behind her being stripped of the title.

The former beauty queen is also expected to move into her newly furnished TRASACCO residence in the next two weeks, the close source is not sure who was paying for the house.

It is still not clear if the embattled beauty queen would carry on her threat to seek legal redress on the circumstance surrounding her losing the title and the opportunity to represent Ghana at the Miss World.

Miss Guiseppina Baafi was relieved of the Miss Ghana 2013 Ambassadorial role by the organizers for what they describe as bad behaviour.

Several weeks after, not a word has been heard from her to defuse the calamitous allegations of entertaining “unauthorized male visitors’ in the Miss Ghana house, open nudity, inebriation, not attending events of sponsors among others.

Hiplife grandpapa, Reggie Rockstone says he sees no reason BET award winner; Sarkodie should render an apology to the media for his “free press” song.

Speaking to Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch, Reggie Rockstone said, "It’s his freedom of expression. Once you had the freedom to write those false stories about him, he also has the freedom to express his opinion on your stories.

"Why should he apologize and to who? When and where did you read or hear that we have asked a writer of a story to apologize for writing untrue stories about us? I see nothing wrong with the song.

"My understanding is if you have written any false story to downplay Sarkodie’s career, then the song goes to you. If you write with integrity, then I don’t think you will see anything wrong with the song. Sarkodie is not a kid; he thought before composing the song".

Sarkodie launched an attack on the Ghanaian media whom he accused of being unsupportive to artistes.

In the song, which was recorded over the instrumental of Busta Rhymes, "Put your hands where my eyes can see," the reigning best rapper in Ghana challenged the media to stop being mediocre.

“Since Kwame Nkrumah we are proud of nothing else; daa pull me down cos negativity sells; they don’t f**k with me cos me I know them really well. Only give you interviews to show you how I felt," a rap line in the song, ‘Free Press’.

Most people in the media have said that Sarkodie could have expressed his opinion without hurting so many people especially with the remark that, "do people think he pays Clarence Peters with pomade?"

However, the originator of Hiplife says the song was just an expression of feelings. “If you found nothing wrong with what you wrote about him to make you apologize, why should he?” Reggie Rockstone asked.

Coded denies Davido`s dominance on 'Baby Dance', says "It's business"
Some music pundits who have listened to 4x4's song that features Davido say they are not happy for the fact that Davido did a major part of the whole song.

But in an interview with Coded of 4x4 fame on AM Pluzz on 89.9fm, he admitted that the trio needed Davido on the song as a stepping stone to get to the African market.

He described the BET award winning artiste Davido as Africa's number one musician currently.

Well, the group is however very confident that having Davido on their song would boost their visibility on the international music market.

When asked whether the group was targeting the Nigerian market, Coded stated that it was part of their objectives because the Nigerian market is large and targeting them is a step in the right direction since the country is highly populated, it would give them added on advantage.

Coded wholly presumes “business would strategically move with Davido on the track.” It shouldn't be surprising that very soon most people outside Ghana would start crediting the song to Davido because he did about 70 percent of the entire song.

8 Super Immune - Boosting Foods - blissgh
“Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care.” ~Buddha. Some of us fail to realize how powerful our bodies could be and how just eating the right foods could resist an attack by any natural biological organism.

Research shows that our body’s pH balance affects our overall health and many foods we eat can make us too acidic where unhealthy cells can thrive.

Especially now, where the Ebola virus has become the topic of every discussion, it’s important to know that the natural remedies produced by your own immune system, provide the most effective healing agents on earth. hellofood.com advises on how to boost your immune system and offers a wide choice of restaurants to eat well even when you're in a rush.

1. Garlic – Although a lot of us shy away from eating this food - perhaps because of its pungent smell and its popular reputation for causing bad breath - the garlic is however, a powerhouse of properties that boost the immune system and has over the years, been used as a medicine to prevent and treat a wide range of diseases. Including this to your diet on a regular basis could do a whole lot of good so add a few chopped cloves to your cooking, if you cannot have it raw.

2. Yogurt – In recent years, so-called “good bacteria” was found in foods like yogurt and sauerkraut, which may help your immune system work well and improve digestion. This healthy and delicious source of protein contains probiotics which lines intestinal walls that helps to fend off harmful bacteria like salmonella in your body. Intake can increase the white blood cell count which helps keeping your immune system in check.

3. Lemon - This precious fruit brings amazing benefits to your health. It is a natural energizer, hydrating and oxygenating the body so it feels revitalized and refreshed. Lemons contain lots of antioxidants and are rich in vitamin C, which improves the immune system. It is also known to improve digestion. Drinking lemon water alkalizes the body, hence balances your pH level.

4. Avocado - It’s a real 'Super Food'. Avocados, which are actually classified as a fruit, are rich in monounsaturated fat that is easily burned for energy. This increases our healthy fat and calorie intake without seriously increasing our protein or carbohydrate intake. It is also helpful for blood sugar health- aids in regulating and stabilizing blood sugar, contains lutein which protects your eyes from age related degeneration

5. Spinach – Popeye didn’t pop this one for nothing. Spinach is packed with numerous antioxidants and vitamins to include Vitamin C, E and A. The nutrients in spinach encourage the white blood cells production in the body which helps guard against diseases.

6. Oysters – Thanks to the mineral zinc that's found in oysters. Low zinc levels have been associated with male infertility. And zinc appears to have some antiviral effect, although researchers can't explain why. However, they do know it is important to several immune system tasks including healing wounds.

7. Sweet Potatoes - Sweet potatoes provide a rich concentration of nutrients and disease fighting components. Several recent studies have shown the superior ability of sweet potatoes to raise our blood levels of vitamin A. Vitamin A is an immune enhancer that heightens the antibody response, maintains and restores the integrity and function of all mucosal surfaces.

8. Elderberry - An old folk remedy, extract from these dark berries appears to block flu viruses in test tube studies. But scientists caution that further study is needed. The fruit itself is rich in antioxidants and may also have the ability to fight inflammation.

To awaken our vehicle, we should invest in our health and our bodies by making conscious decisions to monitor what we ingest. A little goes a long way and by cultivating these healthy habits, our bodies would be better equipped to fend off unwanted diseases. Our body is the only thing which we have that we can truly call ours, so treat it with care.

Tips on how to be a successful woman: Actress Omotola
Nollywood queen, Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde or Omosexy as she’s fondly called, is a successful actress by all standards. In an interview, Omotola who made the prestigious Time magazine’s list of Top 100 Most Influential Persons in the World, shares her success story.

Excerpts:

Tips on how to be a successful woman: It actually starts with character, personality and what beliefs. Everything wrong today actually started from the content of a character. Are you immoral or are you straight forward enough to actually say something and carry through with it. Is the content of your character strong enough? I believe that for you to be great in anything, you have to be someone anyone can trust.you believe in. It stems from your moral

What success means to Omotola: I think success is when God is happy with you. When the closest people around you are happy with you and when your soul is at peace with you.

About the greatest achievement: I have so many great achievements and I am very grateful to God. I can talk about great achievements today because God has empowered me to build my character. At no point did I see all these coming. I never said, ‘let me start being a good girl so that in the future, they will call me to speak, not only on Nollywood but also in mentorship capacity outside Nollywood’. I never said ‘okay, let me be a good girl so that Time magazine will make me a Time 100 woman’; I never thought about all these things. But by God`s grace, I am here today. He taught me to follow a particular life pattern when I was young. And I am grateful that pattern has brought me this far. My greatest achievement is that I got to know God on time; it was a great privilege.

About fears and crying: Don’t believe me when I cry because I might actually be trying to get something out of you (Laughter). My husband says he doesn’t know when to take me serious, whether it’s when I am crying or sober. But I am naturally a very emotional person, quite frankly. I hate injustice; I can’t stand it. When I see somebody who is helpless, I feel like that person’s humanity has been taken away from him and that makes me cry.

Advice for young people: Put in everything you have and believe in something. My point is that you should be passionate about something. Don’t sit on the fence; we have so many people sitting on the fence. Most importantly, set high standards and connect to high self-esteem. We all need each other. We all need someone to help us up when we are down.

About staying scandal free: People will always speculate about you and it could be very disheartening, especially when you have chosen to live right. I don’t want to sound like some holier-than-though whatever, but I work very hard to keep my brand away from scandals. I have fought. I have had to and I will not accept for you to humiliate me before everybody’. Often they try to be mischievous but I stick to my guns. Oftenstand and say, ‘hey! This is what I stand for times they have also turned around to say sorry. For heaven’s sake, I am responsible for the actions and decisions that I take.

President Mahama Replies Sarkodie, “You Are The Most Overrated Rapper In Ghana”
Sarkodie and President Mahama
In an interview earlier today with Luv Fm in Kumasi, President Mahama was asked his opinions on the current state of music in the country, and specifically if he’s heard of rapper Sarkodie’s inflation ‘diss’ song towards him (You can listen below).

Sarkodie yesterday released a record called “Inflation” in which he attacked President Mahama’s government and questioned whether the president is really working for the interest of Ghana or not. With lines like “Kufuor mpo ahunu so na moakofa pro / pro nso koo y3 a, nea obaa y3 de tro (Kufuor had difficulties running the country, and you brought on the professor [Atta Mills], after the professor his successor has been abysmal)” , which explicitly questions the president’s competence.

Sarkodie didn’t stop there, he reminded the president about the current state of the cedi saying:
‘I hope ba biara dollar no aduro no w’aso ate (I hope you are aware of the performance of the cedi against the US dollar’).
When speaking about Sarkodie, the president of the nation called the BET award winner the most overrated rapper Ghana has even seen.
“I don’t quite understand what he wants to accomplish with his music.

“He has some good songs, but he’s at best an average musician. He should focus on music that brings unity and uplifts the spirit of the good people of this country as we experience a short term economic challenge. I must say the song is very funny. He is a genius in that regard, but in the grand scheme of things, I will not consider him a good rapper or a musician at that,” President Mahama said of Sarkodie.
President Mahama also sent a message to other musicians who are perhaps thinking about following Sarkodie’s footsteps in attacking him in their songs.
“I can’t stop you from doing what you want to do, but be careful with the words you use towards me, after all i am the first gentleman of this great nation and thus deserve some respect at minimum. I am not trying to stop people from exercising their freedom of speech, but in all reality, I do not appreciate disrespect in any form.”

Several footballers have tried to pull off the hard-man act while completing the ice bucket challenge, but former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien made no such attempt.

The AC Milan man was nominated for the challenge by team-mate Mario Balotelli and looked fairly content as he sat reeling off the names of those he would pass the buck to while waiting the deluge of ice water.

But Essien’s typically relaxed state quickly turned to chaos as the bucket was thrown over him, producing one of the best and most genuine reactions we’ve seen yet watch the video.

Meanwhile, Muntari, who also accepted the challenge, nominated Marco Materazzi and Emmanuel Adebayor while Armero wants Cristian Zapata and Víctor Ibarbo to do it as well. Nigel De Jong was the first Milan player to do the challenge, followed by Balo.

Per Wikipedia: “The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on one’s head or donating to the ALS Association in the US. It went viral throughout social media during the Northern Hemisphere summer of 2014.

“The challenge dares nominated participants to have a bucket of ice water poured on their head. One common stipulation gives 24 hours from the time they are nominated to complete the dare; otherwise, the participant is asked to donate money to charity.”

Many famous people have done the challenge, and millions of dollars have been donated for ALS research.

So, what is the ice bucket challenge?
You might have noticed a lot of celebrities dousing themselves with buckets of ice water on camera recently.

If you've thought ‘what’s that about?’, well here’s your answer.

Called the ice bucket challenge, it was created by the ALS Association, who are working to fight Amyotrophic lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease or Motor Neurone Disease in the UK.

The challenge is this: film yourself getting doused with a bucket of ice water, post the video to social media and then nominate your friends to do the same.

If you’d rather not have freezing water dumped on your head, you are asked to donate to an ALS charity of your choice.

So far, the challenge has been undertaken by the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Robert Downey Jr, Bill Gates, Gwen Stefani, Michael Zuckerberg, Taylor Swift and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Most recently the hosts of Susanna Reid and Ben Shepherd of Good Morning Britain got in on the act.

I have no problem with people playing my old songs - Ofori Amposah
Hi-life musician, now a self-professed Man of God, Ofori Amponsah, says he has no problem playing his old songs (deemed profane) although he is now leading a new life.

Ofori Amponsah's comments come after former hip-life star, Abraham Philip Akpor Kojo Kenya, popularly known as Lord Kenya cautioned radio presenters and DJs across the country against playing his hip-life songs which he describes as “ungodly”.

Lord Kenya said once he has repented from his old lifestyle, anything “worldly” should not be associated with him because he is now born again.

But Ofori Amponsah, who is now the Head Pastor of the Holy Ground Sanctuary, speaking in an interview with Myjoyonline.com said while he supports Lord Kenya’s directive, he has no problem with people playing his old songs.

Kobi Rana Criticized Over Sex Tape
Kobi Rana
Writer and director, Kobi Rana, is receiving mix reactions over his decision to title his upcoming movie, The Sex Tape.
A recent Hollywood film starring Cameron Diaz among others, which allegedly failed to pull large numbers into USA cinemas, has a similar title.

On Saturday, Kobi who is known for writing and directing movies like Kiss Me If You Can, 2Bad and Hotel Babylon, took to social media, facebook.com, to announce his new movie.

But not everyone was enthused about the announcement of the movie on the social platform.

“Tweaaa (chuckled) , copy copy…Hollywood just released Sex Tape. Master you trying but do something different,” one, Christian Commey criticised Kobi.

But the ‘Crazy’ director, who is also a musician, defended the movie saying; “Do you know how many songs have the word love in them? Is that copy copy too? Come back when you have something to say.”

“…It’s obvious all those village people didn’t know the meaning of ‘Sex tape’ until the Kumasi kids did that video. So allow them to show their Nkuurasesεm,” he added.

Amid the fear of the Ebola virus in Nigeria, an 18-year-old boy in Ovia, North East Local Government Council of Edo State, has confessed that he has bonked five dogs.
The boy who is said to be a dog lover is a welder by profession.

He confessed to Sunday Vanguard that he had slept with different dogs five times until this last episode. It was alleged that a member of the community was passing by an uncompleted building when he sighted the boy making love to a dog and raised an alarm which attracted the villagers.

Following what the villagers described as an abomination, the head of the community, Elder Clifford Igiehon, who was invited to the scene, expressed shock over the incident he described as a taboo.

The suspect at the Edo State Police Command Headquarters, Benin-City, said he did not know what was wrong with him, admitting that he enjoyed sex with five dogs while two bit him during the act.

“I learnt welding around Iheya. I don’t know when I slept with the dog. I slept with dogs five times. Some of the dogs bit me, I have been bitten two times and each time I have a dog bite my grandfather will treat me. I don’t know what is wrong with me”, he told the police.

Asked about the tactics he deployed to attract the dogs, Ighodaro stated: “When I call them, I will be rubbing their heads, petting them so that they will feel free with me. I will be playing with them and they will follow me.

“They will bark at me some times, and when I notice that it is serious I will leave them. Any one that is friendly with me, I take that one to an uncompleted building and have sex.”

The suspect, who was asked about his girlfriend, said he broke up with her last year and started making love to dogs this year.

Edo State Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo, who reacted to the incident, narrated: “It was the people of that community that arrested the boy and called the police. He was taken to Owotubu Division before he was transferred to the state Police Command Headquarters. What he has done is classified under Unnatural Offences, Section 214 Sub-Section Two, which says that any person who has carnal knowledge of an animal is guilty of a felony and is liable for imprisonment for 14 years if he is found guilty. We are going to process him for court. You can see that the guy is not denying anything.”

I’m not afraid to go to Liberia for Ebola music video - Barimah Sidney

Popular Ghanaian musician, Barimah Sidney has indicated his readiness to travel to Liberia to record a music video to go along with his recently released song on Ebola.

Sidney has successfully recorded a song on Ebola with financial support from the Liberian international soccer star and politician, George Oppon Weah, who featured in the song.

The song is doing well on radio and has even been played on BBC radio and other international networks.

As per the agreement with Oppon Weah, Sidney is supposed to shoot a music video to go with the song.

Tuesday’s edition of the Daily Guide newspaper reported that Barimah Sidney has refused to travel to Liberia to shoot the music video insisting it must be shot in Ghana because of the high health risk in the country which is one of the worst affected by Ebola.

This seemed to have created a bone of contention between Sidney and the Oppon Weah Foundation.

Reacting to the newspaper publication Tuesday morning on Okay FM, Barimah Sidney said he was not afraid to go to Liberia.

He explained his only problem was with the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s travel advisory cautioning Ghanaians not to travel to Ebola affected countries.

He said he was waiting for Oppon Weah to return from France this weekend for them to decide whether to shoot the video in Ghana or Liberia.

Sidney’s song on Ebola is meant to create awareness on the disease and how to prevent contracting the virus which has already killed thousands of people in some West African countries.

Liberia was currently in a crises over the Ebola disease.

New UN figures show that 1,229 people have now died since the beginning of this year in the outbreak that has also hit Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria.

The World Health Organisation has said there were 84 deaths reported between 14 and 16 August.

The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is the world's deadliest to date. The disease has no known cure.
Symptoms include high fever, bleeding and central nervous system damage
Fatality rate can reach 90% - but current outbreak has about 55%
Incubation period is two to 21 days
There is no vaccine or cure
Supportive care such as rehydrating patients who have diarrhoea and vomiting can help recovery
Fruit bats, a delicacy for some West Africans, are considered to be virus' natural host.

He also condemns Ghanaian politicians for presiding over delay in payment of salaries, and only performing during election period.

He said Ghanaians are gradually losing trust in leaders.

Sarkodie appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to walk in the shoes of the ordinary Ghanaian to help him address the many challenges they are experiencing.

Radio & TV Will Soon Be History – Bull Dog
In what appears to be a further endorsement of the recent insult dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, heaped on Ghanaian journalists, his manager, Bull Dog, has said the radio and television industry has no future and would soon become a thing of the past.

According to Bull Dog, known in private life as Lawrence Asiamah Hansan, “social media is the future” and is bigger than radio and television.

Bull Dog’s statement comes days after his artiste, Shatta Wale, described Ghanaian journalists as “the most foolish” set of journalists he had ever come across. Not only did Bull Dog endorse the insult, he also went on a couple of radio stations to justify it.

The artiste manager has also not heeded to several calls on him to retract the insult and offer an apology.

He rather took to his facebook page on Saturday to write: “someone said radio and television is (sic) bigger than the Internet… and I asked him if it’s true… what are they doing on the Internet? Social media is the future. Radio and television are gradually facing off. Soon it will be history. Big ups to the inventors of social media. Sell yourself out here to the world. Every dial has a jurisdiction; the World Wide Web is limitless.” This statement seems to be in defiance of the calls on him to apologise to the media for the insults.

Last Thursday, Shatta Wale wrote on his facebook wall:

“IN FACT GHANA MEDIA IS THE MOST FOOLISH MEDIA I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE…ANY MEDIA THAT PUBLISHES ANY FAKE NEWS ABOUT ME SHATTA WALE IS A PUSSY…!!! I HAVE SAID IT…PUSSY.”Surprisingly, the first person to like the statement on Shatta Wale’s wall was Bull Dog.

The insult from Shatta and the attitude of his manager have not gone down well with journalists who have had cause to comment on it, but the two seem not to be bothered and insist they stand by their offensive words.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian media has over the years shown a huge support for Bull Dog and his artiste management company, Bullhaus Entertainment.

Several artistes under Bullhaus, including Brimnna, VVIP, 5Five, IWAN, Natural Face, Koo Ntakrah, as well as his BASS Awards, have also enjoyed a lot of media support.

It is not certain what the hitherto cordial relationship between Bullhaus Entertainment and the Ghanaian media would be, going forward.

THE MOST FOOLISH MEDIA I HAVE EVER SEEN - SHATTA WALE
Popular dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, has described Ghanaian journalists as “the most foolish” set of journalists he has ever come across—an insult his manager, Lawrence Naan Asiamah Hanson, aka Bull Dog, readily endorsed.

Shatta Wale on Thursday took to his official facebook page to write: “IN FACT GHANA MEDIA IS THE MOST FOOLISH MEDIA I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE…ANY MEDIA THAT PUBLISHES ANY FAKE NEWS ABOUT ME SHATTA WALE IS A PUSSY…!!! I HAVE SAID IT…PUSSY.” Surprisingly, the first person to like the statement on Shatta Wale’s wall was Bull Dog.

Shatta has remained consistent in bragging publicly that he did not rise to fame on the wings of the media. Therefore his recent attack does not really come as a surprise, though it is not clear what prompted the insults.

Bull Dog, Shatta Wale’s manager, has however relied on the support and cooperation of the Ghanaian media to promote and publicise the activities of his Bullhaus Entertainment, BASS Awards and the several musicians under his record label, including VVIP, IWAN, Natural Face, 5Five, Brainna and others.

Bull Dog is generally perceived as a media-friendly person and is least expected to have publicly endorsed such a public insult on Ghanaian journalists, especially when it is a generalised one coming from an artiste under his management.

On the same Thursday, Shatta Wale also took to his facebook wall to pray the deadly Ebola disease on persons he perceived were saying or writing things about him.

“TODAY SHATTA FINGER GIRL, TOMORROW POLICE ARREST SHATTA, LAST WEEK SHATTA WEAR “CHALE WOTE”. EBOLA GO CATCH YOU PEOPLE ALL AND YOUR GENERATIONS.AAAH BA…LEAVE ME AND LET ME LIVE MY LIFE,” was what Shatta wrote.

Shatta Wale’s outbursts on Thursday did not only get an endorsement from his manager, Bull Dog, but several of his fans agreed with him.

The popular musician has gained notoriety for insulting persons and institutions whose opinions about him displease him. Though his attitude has been largely condemned by entertainment pundits and civil society, Shatta Wale’s handlers have not chided him, at least not publicly, about his conduct.

Even though Sarkodie has not been around so long in Ghana music circles, he has managed to create a niche for himself. He is now one of the most revered musicians in Ghana and when it comes to rating in Africa, Sarkodie scores highly.

He knows how to excite his fans at shows and also win the hearts of mere observers at shows that he performs on.

Performance wise, Sarkodie controls the game now. He makes rocking a show look easy. Aside all of these, Sarkodie is very passionate about issues concerning Ghanaian musicians and their welfare.

He has travelled widely and worked with other artistes on other continents.

Currently making headlines is his new song titled Free Press. In the song, he takes Ghanaian media to the cleaners for what he claims are their silly views against Ghanaian musicians who aspire to put the country on the map musically.

Perhaps, I should not be disappointed at the kind of invectives that Sarkodie heaps on the media but I am. I reckon that was something on his heart that he needed to vent out and as a musician, doing a song was a way he could best say what was up his chest. But I dare say he displays his ungratefulness and some level of ignorance.

In a line of that song, he says “…I’m really doing my best.” That cannot be contested. This means that, if he’s doing well, he expects to be pushed forward than to be pulled back. Also, he says lots of things in that song that many people in the media agree with. This means that, it is not the entire media in Ghana who are against him as he claims.

The question that raises its head here, therefore is whether he, Sarkodie, and his colleagues are doing some things that invite criticism from a section of the media?

This is why I think Sarkodie may need to take a chill pill and look at the other side of doing things, if the present one is not working well to his satisfaction.

As a media person, I may not want to know how much he is paid for a performance but I may be interested in knowing how much of his earnings is invested into his career to ensure that he continues to stay on top of his game.

Sarkodie has a bodyguard that I have written about. He also has a manager but has he got a PR? His manager, my big brother, Sammy Forson, may be a media person before he started to manage him but a job of a manager is not the same as a PR job.

Sarkodie is a success story, without any doubt. If he thinks a bodyguard and a manager are important, then I put it to him that, a PR is equally important to a successful brand like himself.

Social media may have taken over from mainstream media in recent times but the distinction is there for all of us to see, if only we are not in denial. Sarkodie may choose to ignore mainstream media and rely solely on social media but one thing he must know is that, one can control what is put on the former, as for the latter, everything is welcome.

In relying solely on social media to get to his fans, Sarkodie can tweet both good and bad things, the media which is looking for information may clench on the negative tweets. After all, they are not under any obligation to trumpet the good things that anybody is doing.

In his Free Press song, Sarkodie makes particular mention of why media men from Ghana did not follow him to the US when he was nominated for a BET award.

Well, if he does not know, I wish to educate Sarkodie that small or growing media houses anywhere in the world rely on celebrities for news. This is normal. Most media houses in Ghana are still growing and therefore they may not have the resources to often fly journalists to other countries to cover events that they may have interest in.

That is why most journalists and media personnel are sponsored to international events. For the past four years, I have been sponsored to attend events in countries like Nigeria, South Africa and Mauritius. What prevents Sarkodie from doing same especially when the outcome of the reports would benefit him?

Sarkodie should continue to do what he does best and also get a PR personnel for himself to be trumpeting all the good things he’s doing via press releases to the media houses.

If Sarkodie doesn't know or if he cares to know, he may be bigger than some stars in Ghana but they do the right things that he may not be doing.

Stonebwoy talks, Bhim Nation Song
Popular reggae dancehall and afropop artiste, Stonebwoy, has released his latest single, which he says, is to herald the launch of his newest album.

The song titled Bhim Nation, he says is the last song before he releases his much anticipated second album, Necessary Evil.

In Bhim Nation, Stonebwoy who sings and raps in both Jamaican Patois and Ewe, talks about how far his group, “Bhim Nation”, has come and acknowledges the fact that he is now the biggest artiste in the dancehall and afropop genre in the country.

The fast tempo song also contains a warning to his competitors that he is “untouchable” and “sicker than them by far”.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz last Thursday, Stonebwoy said the song was not to brag about himself but a tribute to his huge fan base who have supported him from the time he first burst onto the music scene and who continue to motivate him daily.

“I made this song just to show my die-hard fans that I appreciate their support. They have been very instrumental in getting me where I am now,” he said.

Stonebwoy revealed that although everything was set for the release of his album before the end of the year, he was yet to fix a specific date for the launch.

The Pull Up star said that although he was famous in musical circles for doing primarily afropop and dancehall songs, he was also interested in doing other genres of music as well.

He disclosed that he had a number of collaborations with artistes from other genres, which would be released with the launch of his new album. Most notably, he mentioned that he had a collaboration with Outlawz, the group of the late hiphop icon, Tupac Shakur, and asked Ghanaians to expect the song to be out soon.

Speaking about his BASS Awards nominations, Stonebwoy, who has been given the nod for honours in five categories namely; Artiste of the Year, Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Dancehall Song of the Year, Best Collaboration of the Year (Dancehall) and Best Performer, said he is not focusing on winning any award in particular because just being nominated was an honour in itself.

“It is an honour to be nominated for these awards because it means all my hard work and effort is being acknowledged and appreciated. In these types of awards, everyone is a potential winner so being nominated brings me joy,” he said.

Stonebwoy, real name, Livingstone Etse Satekla, has done collaborations with some of the big artistes in the country namely Samini, Irene Logan and Mugeez of R2Beez. Some of his most notable songs include Pull Up, Ghetto Love and Kwenaamu.

Big Brother Africa rejects Ghana over Ebola?
Organisers of the Big Brother Africa competition have reported rejected the candidates selected to represent Ghana at the contest.
According to a report by Ghanaian website, StarrFMonline.com, four candidates were rejected on the basis of the Ebola scare in West Africa.

Quoting unnamed sources at Endemol, producers of the BBA show, the report said the four candidates who made it through the selection stage in Ghana were rejected because of the Ebola Scare in the West African sub-region.

“An official revealed that fresh auditions are being held to select new Ghanaian candidates for the popular TV reality show of the continent. The new audition is only opened to Ghanaian nationals leaving in South Africa as a precautionary measure. It is expected that the same thing will be done to candidates from all of West Africa, especially countries where the Ebola disease has been recorded,” StarrFMonline.com reported Sunday.

Ebola has killed over 1000 people in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria since it broke out.

Big Brother Africa is a television program produced by Endemol SA for M-net. It has been hosted annually since 2003, when the first show aired.

The contestants live in an ‘enclosed’ house and try to win a cash prize $300,000.

Boom time for Comedians - blissgh
Several corporate entities seem to have gleefully bought into the idea of using celebrities to promote brands and sustain campaigns.

A number of actors, musicians, television and radio presenter, models and footballers are enjoying the benefits that come with being a brand ambassador.

The latest trend for the telecommunication companies is to fall on comedians for their commercials in a bid to catch public attention and increase patronage.

Vodafone Ghana hired comedian Funny Face to spearhead their Vodafone Red campaign. Under that contract, the funny man was used in television, radio, print and billboard commercials to promote the brand.

Not long after that, MTN also signed well-known Kumawood actor, Kwajo Nkansah, popularly known as Liwin, as a brand ambassador for their ‘Aben Wo Ha’ campaign.

The comical character dominating television, radio and print commercials for Airtel these days is Richard Asante, popularly known as Kalybos.

Just as the vim in the use of funny men in commercials appeared to be waning, reports reaching The Mirror indicated that Kumawood actor, Kwaku Manu was on set shooting commercials for Glo.

So is this just an era of popularity for the funny men or a period of savvy marketing by the telecommunication companies?

Mr Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, a Communications Expert and President of the Ghana Association of Writers (GAW), in a chat with The Mirror on the love affair between the companies and the comedians, said it was common for commercial brands, especially those that needed high volume sales to survive, to communicate their values in ways that the public would appreciate.

He pointed out that well-loved celebrities are among the people they usually fell on to help communicate their messages because such folks already have following.

“Our first President, Kwame Nkrumah used comedian Bob Cole to send messages about taxation and good citizenship because he knew people loved Bob Cole,” the GAW president said.

“So the current phenomenon is not exactly new. It does not necessarily say anything about us as a people and the way we love to communicate. It is driven by sheer commercial motive.”

Whatever the motive, it seems the funny men of the moment have no problems with that because their bank accounts are beginning to swell.
